Nashville, Tenn. (Feb. 14, 2008) — Michael W. Smith was recognized by the Gospel Music Association with three GMA Dove Award Nominations, gospel/Christian music’s highest honor, today at a press conference held in Nashville. Smith, who co-hosted today’s press conference with Gospel Music Channel’s Elle Duncan, has garnered 40 GMA Dove Awards to date.
Smith’s nominations include: It’s A Wonderful Christmas in the Christmas Album category; “Be Lifted High,” a song co-written with Leeland Mooring on the GRAMMY nominated Stand album, in the Inspirational Recorded Song category; and Special Event Album for his contribution to nominated project, Glory Revealed.
Upon receiving his nominations, Smith shared, “I’m really overwhelmed. These projects were very special to me, so I really appreciate this recognition. I’ve been recording for 25 years so it’s especially gratifying to be honored like this.”
Over his 25-year career as a recording artist, Michael W. Smith has amassed an impressive catalog of achievements. His 20 albums have garnered multiple honors including an American Music Award, 3 GRAMMY Awards (from 13 nominations) and 40 GMA Dove Awards. In addition, he holds 16 Gold and 5 Platinum albums, 31 No.1 radio hits, and has been named one of People Magazine’s Most Beautiful People. Smith has also scored several film projects and written 11 books. His tours consistently rank among the best attended in the country and he has performed to capacity crowds throughout the world. Constantly giving back to the community, one of his current projects is Rocketown -- a nightclub for teens in his hometown of Nashville, Tenn. -- which serves as a safe place for young people to enjoy music and for artists to be discovered. He is married to Debbie Smith and they are the proud parents of five children.
